Service eighteightPAULIE

Similar to when we did Keller’s Magic Emporium and The Great Discovery, the service was pretty standard. I gave them a point lower for this experience because we got out of the room but no one noticed due to the receptionist being busy. I feel like customer service at the end should be just as important as it is in the beginning. We left without having our picture taken.

Escape City has friendly and prompt staff – they want you to get in and get going right away, but they send you in very cheerfully!

We felt stupid in this room. We had to ask for a hint pretty much for every puzzle. The puzzles themselves were not too difficult to solve after the hints, so it was a matter of connecting a clue to the puzzle. That’s where we failed. Overall though, the puzzles here were solid. They were all in that sweet middle spot of the easy-difficult spectrum.

I think we did this room on an off day, so it took some time and a couple of hints to really get going in this room. There was a puzzle that we accidentally solved. When this happens, I think that the puzzle design needs to be rethought. Other than that, the puzzles were well put together and pretty fun to solve. There was also a fun new lock in this room!

Like Ben said, walking into this room felt like walking into a set of British drama, like one of the rooms in Downton Abbey, or the Gryffindor common room. Although it was residence-themed, the decor was appropriately British-ified enough. I gave it an 8 because some of the puzzles looked a bit jarring and took away from the overall look. I also would like to add that I appreciate the rooms at Escape City having different doors, each customized to the room you’re about to enter.

I really liked this room – it’s a nice big room that looks convincingly like the kind of study you would see on a British drama. The locks you needed to open weren’t on out-of-place chests scattered around the room, which I also appreciated.

The music in the room was laidback. I can’t decide if this was good or not. I’m used to escape rooms having tense music playing in the background. In this case, it was hard to feel excited while being in the room, but at the same time, it was also a different experience which I appreciated.

In addition to the beautiful room and the well-placed puzzles, I thought that the music in this room was also great. This isn’t a room that pushes you to go as fast as you can to escape, but instead engages you in an almost calming way.

Theme PAULIE eighteight

Most themes paint you as the framed bad guy and your objective is to clear your reputation. Another common theme is you’re the good guy and your objective is to save yourself from the bad guy. There aren’t too many themes with the objective of rewarding you with something at the end, like the theme for this room.

This was such a unique theme! I really like the story behind this room, and I loved how the props and the puzzles in the room built up the character of the eccentric old uncle.

I would give this room a #gold rating. If you want something more atmosphere-driven that will get you shaking every time you open a lock, this isn’t the room for you. If you want something more laidback like Ben said, then I recommend this room.

I would give this room a #gold rating. This is a good room if you want something a bit more relaxing instead of adrenaline-pumping (like Visiting Hour at GTFO).
